Most buyers start at 30′ wide for a comfortable 1-bedroom or studio layout. A 40′ wide structure gives you room for 2–3 bedrooms plus an open living area. Do barndominiums require a concrete slab?
For a barndominium used as a residence, a concrete slab is strongly recommended – it provides the stability, moisture barrier, and level foundation a living structure needs. The slab is the buyer’s responsibility before our install crew arrives. We don’t pour concrete, but we can walk you through what specs you’ll need.
Do I need a permit for a barndominium?

A metal garage is built for vehicle and equipment storage – it’s not designed for full-time living. A barndominium is purpose-built to function as a home: taller wall heights, insulation packages, more windows, and layouts designed around living space.
